Orchid Mixes

Willgro General Orchid Mix 3L

Contents: medium fir bark, coarse perlite, charcoal, chunky peat/sphagnum moss

This mix works best for Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, Cattleya alliance, Oncidium, Zygopetalum, and Cymbidiums.

Willgro Fine Fir Bark 3L

Contents: fine fir bark

Fine bark is able to hold water better so the soil will not dry out as fast. Use this for varieties like Paphiopiledum. Some orchids prefer better drainage so it’s best to find out which grade suits your orchid.

Willgro Medium Fir Bark 3L

Contents: medium fir bark

Medium bark provides more airflow than its fine coooounterpart. This is good for orchids like Cattleyas. Medium grade potted orchids will also require less repotting.

Willgro Odontoglossum Orchid Media 3L

Contents: fine grade fir bark, medium-grade fir bark, charcoal, and coarse perlite

Willgro Odontoglossum Orchid Media contains fine-grade fir bark, medium-grade fir bark, charcoal, and coarse perlite.

Willgro Cymbidium Orchid Media 3L

Contents: coco chunks, coca fibre, and coarse perlite

The coco chunks help to retain moisture, while the perlite imporves drainage to have a well balanced mix for Cymbidium orchids.

Willgro Fine Media 3L

Contents: fine grade fir bark, charcoal, and coarse perlite

Ideal for orchids such as Miltoniopsis and Paphiopedilum. This finer mix is more water-retentive making it a suitable choice for seedlings or water-demanding orchids.

Willgro Medium CoCo Chunk & Fiber 3L

Contents: coco chunks, fibre

A blend of medium coconut husk chunks and coconut husk fibre. Can be used on its own or mixed with amendments such as perlite to create a potting mix ideal for many types of tropical plants and orchids. Coconut husk products retain moisture better than bark but are also more porous and last longer than peat, and are easier to re-wet. 

Willgro Medium Charcoal 3L

Contents: charcoal bits

Willgro Medium Charcoal aids in water absorption, rids soil of impurities, repels insects, and is a preventative against mold. Charcoal is a great store of nutrients.

Willgro Small Lava Rock 3L

Contents: lava rock bits 

WillGro lava rock is a high-quality medium for hydroponic orchid growing. Lava rock provides more air to the roots, and less moisture than in more typical fir bark media, and does not decompose, which means less repotting. This size is well suited for growing Cattleyas and Phalaenopsis.

Willgro Medium Pumice 3L

Contents: up to 1/4″ pumice rock chunks

WillGro Pumice is ideal for orchid growing – a lightweight, inorganic, highly porous growing media holding 25 to 50% of its weight in water, offering excellent air circulation. Use alone or mixed with 10% WillGro Sphagnum Moss soaked and well torn up. Best suited for Cattleyas, Laelis, Lycastes, Cymbidiums, and Coelogyne.

Willgro Coarse Pumice 3L

Contents: 1-4″ to 1/2″ pumice rock pieces

WillGro Pumice is ideal for orchid growing – a lightweight, inorganic, highly porous growing media holding 25 to 50% of its weight in water, offering excellent air circulation. It is great for orchids that resent disturbance since repotting is only required when pots are outgrown.  Best suited for Cattleyas, Laelias, Lycastes, Cymbidiums, and Coelogyne.

Willgro Large Clay Pellets 3L

Contents: 16-25 mm clay pellets

Clay pellets are ideal for growing in a hydroponic system. These are a clean and easy-to-use potting media that provide access to better nutrition, less root decay, along with more air to the roots. Clay Pellets enable orchids to be repotted less frequently due to lesser media breakdown.

Willgro Large Perlite 3L

Willgro Large Perlite is an additive to your orchid media. Perlite is a lightweight soil additive that helps the soil structure and increases porosity.

Dutch Treat All Purpose Charcoal 3L

Contents: horticultural grade charcoal

Used on bottom of non drainage planters, terrariums and bulb culture. Also used to filter water in aquariums.

Promix Premium Orchid Mix 5L, 9L

Contents: western fir bark, charcoal, and perlite

This mix has good drainage and absorbent charcoal to help orchids thrive. The bark provides the necessary aeration to prevent root rot.

Care & Soil

Bonsai trees make beautiful and unique looking plants in your home. We have carried type such as the juniper bonsai and fig bonsai. Make sure you water your bonsai frequently as they can often dry out. If you’re worried about over-watering, keep an eye out for signs including yellowing leaves and shriveled branches. Bonsai soil should have good drainage with materials like lava rock, pumice, and bark.
