Chinese Money Plant
Pilea peperomioides
With its round leaves, this plant is sometimes known as the UFO plant or pancake plant. More commonly, it’s called the Chinese money plant as its leaves almost resemble little coins. Many people believe this plant can also bring financial prosperity to the home, lending further to its common name.
Chinese money plant requires moderate watering; let the soil dry out almost completely, then soak it thoroughly and repeat. It enjoys bright, indirect sunlight, so a sunny East- or West-facing windowsill will make it very happy. Avoid direct sunlight as you don’t want to scorch the leaves!
Coarse, sandy soil works best for this plant. Lots of organic matter is great; a peat- or coir-based mix would be perfect.
This plant, along with all members of the Pilea family, is safe for pets and small children.
